The Management Team
Dave FroggattManager of the 3rds for the past 3/4 years, he has taken his young side from under 16’s into the adult league with great success. With his winning mentality he is always ready to motivate his side with kind words and unbound enthusiasm. He is looking for another good cup run and a top 3 finish.
Paul Garnet ‘Nak’
Dave’s right hand man, from helping putting the nets up, selling football cards to giving his expert opinion on players, his help to Dave is invaluable. He has a 100% win ratio as a Shirley manager which keeps Dave on his toes. He also enjoys the after mach drink and banter with the lads.
Players
Craig Garnet ‘Alfie’Likes to speed down the wing more than in his car, a great crosser of the ball with the ability of thunderous drive, shame it’s only one on target for every 100 shots! He has been extremely consistent over the past 2 or 3 season and looks like he enjoys the football banter. If he had the fitness to last 90 mins he could be dangerous and a threat for player of the year.
Danny Ridings ‘Screamer’
Solid centre half and plays with confidence and is learning the art of talking to his team mates. He can get very excitable when Shirley score as his voice goes up an octave or 2. If only he could take a tackle without screaming out in pain or for his mum .
Lee ‘Terry Butcher’ Chambers
With goal of the season to his name last season Lee is a loyal hardworking centre half and will kick anyone for Shirley team mates or if he feels like it! He works hard to raise money for the club his efforts have raised over a thousand pound for the club.
Wayne ‘F**K the Club’ Brown
The oldest member of the squad but it doesn’t show. With over 300 games in a 10+ Shirley career, the inspirational sweeper has great ability to read a game but not to run. Get’s the younger inexperienced members of the defence to do his running but he is the glue that holding together. He can always find his team mates with a eloquent hoof. He has the ability to chat for 90 min if only his body could run around the same. He is enjoying passing on his vast footballing experience and knowledge onto his ever grateful team mates.
Louie Baker
He’s like a stick of rock, if you chopped him in half he would read Shirley Athletic in the middle. He is a loyal utility player and gives his all. He has more rabbit than Sainsbury’s, if his feet were as quick as his mouth he would be playing for Aston Villa. He’s made club man of the year his own trophy which is a great attribute. He has gotten 2 kit sponsors in 2 years which Shirley 3rds are very appreciative of.
Ben Evans ‘Ginge’
Great utility player can play across the back 3 and anywhere in midfield all he lacks is self belief. He has a flamboyant and individual style of play which crosses over into his clothes he is the Vivian Westwood of Shirley 3rds.
Danny Wall ‘Woolly’
The Ronaldo of Shirley 3rds has the man-bag and the ability to prove it. With his twinkle toes he glides past people and can score from any angle or distance. He is as quiet as mouse on the pitch but has been known to speak up for himself… ‘Suckya mom’.
Adam Walker
Joined mid way through last season he has played in a number of positions. He proved that is goalkeeping days well and truly behind him and is now settling into the Shirley midfield. If his performances are as weighty as gold chain / bracelets Shirley 3rds are laughing all the way to the jewellery quarter.
Luke Froggatt ‘Froggy’
Has great ability he can do it all skills, passing, shooting and he has just added heading (with is eyes open) to his repertoire. He is the Glen Hoddle of his era which means he sings a mean version of diamond lights. His assist for goals tally he is top of the league and his pops up with the odd goal here and there. He could be a contender for player of the year as he is keeps improving season on season.
Dave Collins ‘Trigger’
He is famous he must be his name is all over Birmingham but that was down to his taggin days! If every Shirley player had his determination and work rate we would win every cup and league. With legs of elastic he seems to stretch to make any tackle, he has fancy flicks and tricks but his first touch leaves a lot to be desired. He has perfected the innocent look for referees after he has kicked someone.
Kevin Bird ‘Birdie’
In his second season at Shirley his ability, goal-scoring and leadership has seen him be made captain. Has the ability to score every style of goal from a simple tap-in to and overhead kick, from a 30 yard screamer or a twenty yard volley. He can pick out his team mates with a perfect through ball or pass.
Peter Marshall ‘Dollar’
Has returned to the fold after a year or 2 away He seems to have got quicker, his cheetah like speed means he can beat any defender all he needs to do is take the ball with him! He will be pushing Birdie for top goal scorer this season.
Jack Garrish
This is the first season in adult football for the 16 year old and he hasn’t showed any nerves. He has the ability to pop up to score an important goal or make the important last ditched tackle. Good lad for the future of Shirley.
TJ
He has also made his return after 2 year absence. Great on the ball rarely gives it away. He seems to have the ability to caress the ball into the forwards path without trying. Works hard for his team mates and will always deliver.
Frank
First season with Shirley and was scouted by Dave Froggatt. Not a bad centre half but a terrible goalkeeper! Knows how to handle himself and has the tag to prove it.
Dave Sheridan ‘Shezza’
He is Ryan Giggs of Shirley, he can not go on mazy runs beat 6 players and score and he doesn’t have a hairy chest but he has only ever played Saturday football for Shirley spanning 16 years 500+ games. He started as a midfield dynamo, the dynamo is moving a little more slowly these days but his ability isn’t. He is a great utility player can play in most positions from goalkeeper to centre forward. He has great feet and the ball stick to his feet like glue. and never gives the ball away, opposition players find it impossible to get the ball off of him but this is because they are knackered by the time they have ran round him.
