Shirley Athletic are an established, credible amateur football club, playing on Saturday afternoons in the Birmingham & District AFA league. Formed in 1972, Shirley now has 3 teams in the above mentioned league.
The 1st team & 2nd team play their home games at The Glades, Lugtrout Lane, Catherine-De-Barnes, Solihull West Midlands. B91 2RX. The 1st team have now successfully enjoyed AFA Premier League football, including the forth coming 2008/09 season, for 5 years and are improving with each season. The 2nd team compete in the AFA Division 3, after an amazing second half of last season, seeing them finishing 4th in this Division.
The 3rd team are now playing their home games at the Chelmsley Onward Club, 107 Helmswood Drive, Chelmsley Wood. B37 7NS. 3 years ago, Dave Froggatt came through with his own junior team, enabling them to play open age football for the 1st time. All but one year has seen promotion from each division, but also seen the team reach Cup Finals in each year too. Now, they will continue to pit their wits against the rest of the AFA Division 4 for the forthcoming season.
Eventually, the whole of Shirley Athletic will play from the same club, which we all hope to be in the near future.
